How Our Clothing Can Make Us Feel Better (or Even Influence How Others Treat Us)

Have you ever put on an outfit and felt like something just wasn’t right? Maybe it’s because you don’t like the garment itself, but… what if that piece of clothing fit you perfectly? Would you still feel the same way?

We often hear phrases like:
👉 “That’s only for tall girls.”
👉 “That only looks good on people with 90-60-90 measurements.”
👉 “That type of clothing isn’t for me.”

Even I have fallen into these stereotypes. And yes, I understand that we all have different body types:
Hourglass
Triangle or Pear-shaped
Inverted Triangle
Rectangle

And depending on this, there are certain garments that are supposed to be more flattering for each body type. But what if a piece of clothing that is recommended for your body shape doesn’t fit well or doesn’t make you feel comfortable? That’s when the problem starts—we feel bad and often blame our bodies, when in reality, the issue is not our body… but the garment and how it fits.

The Secret to Making Any Garment Look Amazing on You

Want to know how to make a garment fit you perfectly, even if it’s “not meant for your body type”? The answer is simple: it needs to be tailored to your measurements.

Of course, having clothes custom-made varies in cost depending on where you live. In places like the U.S. or Europe, it can be very expensive, while in countries like India or Latin America, it can be much more affordable.

But… what if you can’t afford to have all your clothes made to measure? Here’s a simple and practical solution:

TAILORING YOUR CLOTHES FOR THE PERFECT FIT

If you buy a beautiful dress but it was designed for someone who is 1.80m tall, instead of discarding it, take it to a tailor to adjust it to your height. If you have a sewing machine at home, even better! You’ll save money and get a perfect fit.

Another classic example:
👖 Pants that fit perfectly at the hips but are too loose at the waist. Sound familiar? That extra space in the back can ruin the look. But a simple adjustment to the waist can transform them from "not flattering" to "absolutely perfect for your body."

Don’t take my word for it—try it yourself!

1️⃣ Pick a piece of clothing from your closet that doesn’t make you feel confident.
2️⃣ Look in the mirror and analyze what you don’t like about it (Is it the shape? The length? The fit?).
3️⃣ Modify it yourself (if you know some sewing or follow tutorials on YouTube) or take it to a tailor.
4️⃣ Try on the adjusted garment and you’ll see that the issue was never your body—it was simply that the clothing wasn’t made for your measurements.

Experiment and Dare to Try New Things

While knowing your body type is a great tool, it doesn’t mean you should limit yourself to only wearing what is "supposed" to suit you. A palazzo pant can look completely different depending on the type of fabric used.

The key is to experiment, take risks with new cuts, explore different colors, and most importantly, adapt your clothing to your measurements so that it truly makes you feel good.
